The Princeton Record Exchange
EXPeRiences at PREX
PRINCETON, NJ- Home to one of the most prestigious colleges in the world, Princeton is a small, affluent area just 20 minutes away from my hometown. Many kids from around the central Jersey area visit Princeton frequently to walk around the beautiful university campus or explore the plethora of stores that line the street. There's clothing, several eateries and vintage coffee shops, bars, book stores, and even a small theater that plays indie movies and films from the 40s. The campus itself also has an art museum on site, and admission is free. There's always something to do in Princeton, which is why I go there with my friends so frequently. On one of our visits, we discovered a small shop on Tulane Street labeled "Princeton Record Exchange". Since we are all big on music, we decided to go in.
The Princeton Record Exchange has been around since 1980 and prides itself in buying and selling music and film in virtually any form. They hold approximately 60,000 CDs, 6,000 DVDs, and 60,000 LPs. Their music ranges from classical to jazz to acid rock to techno to pretty much any melody that's been recorded ever. The store itself has a particular smell, like as soon as you walk in you're hit by a mix of musty vinyl and aged cover art. There's boxes of records crammed onto every available surface, and people from all walks of life are on the prowl for that one album that meant the world to them in high school of was the theme track to their wedding. It's a wonderful experience, really. And there's nothing better than finding a piece of music that you've been on the lookout for for so long. It's definitely a culturally rewarding experience, and once you've found what you're looking for you can walk right down the street and celebrate your findings with a nice cup of organic coffee. I advise music lovers everywhere to stop by PREX. No matter what genre you're into, they will definitely have what you're looking for.
