Asbury Lanes

Soul Bowl????
ASBURY PARK, NJ- One night not too long ago I had gotten off of work and was looking for an adventure. My friend suggested we go to a small venue by the beach called Asbury Lanes, and I agreed without a second thought. An hour later, we were standing in line outside of a bowling alley. I was certainly taken aback, but eager for whatever was about to happen. Low and behold,  I was at a small, punk rock concert whose stage was in the middle of a bowling alley. Now I've been to some pretty weird places for a show, but this was by far the coolest.
Asbury Lanes first opened up in 1962, and since then has been a spot for numerous punk rock band performances, as well as dance parties, film festivals, and art shows. The versatility of the place is what makes it so cool in my opinion. It has a very funky vintage-grunge feel to it, and it's a great way to meet a diverse group of people. The place itself is dark, but strung with dozens of lights around the bar and lounge areas. Bands trying to get their name out there have covered every available surface in stickers that read their name. I know this style isn't for everyone and some people would find it uncomfortable in this environment, but I felt right a home. Everyone is very friendly and open with complete strangers, which is something you don't see often. And we are all connected by a common thread: the music. We can all relate to it, and it gives us some mutual understanding of one another.

I'm someone who's very open to many different music styles, but I think everyone should take a chance to check out some of the bands I saw perform there. They are all really wonderful people connecting with other wonderful people and providing a mutual understanding of the pain and joy we experience in our lives. I'm sure they'd also love the support!
Sorority Noise
Teenage Halloween
Wisteria (my fav)
